Springfield man arrested in connection to fatal shooting at mobile home park

An arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of a Springfield man over the weekend, according to .听

An arrest warrant was issued for Brandon L. Berner, 23, of Springfield. Berner faces three counts of first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing Michael Newton.

Newton, 33, died from a gunshot wound to the neck from a shooting at the 1000 block of North Edmond Street, according to an autopsy performed Monday.

According to the Coroner鈥檚 Office, the warrant came after sheriff's detectives were able to identify Berner as the suspect through investigation.

Berner turned himself in on Monday night, around 10:12 p.m. to the Springfield Police Department.

Campbell said Newton did not live in the mobile home park and the shooting could have been related to an earlier disturbance with multiple individuals in the 600 block of North Wesley Street on May 4.

Berner is being held in the Sangamon County Jail.
