Who's going to state? Meet the Springfield area's 2024 state qualifiers for girls track

Here are the girls track and field state qualifiers from the Springfield area. 

Only the Class 2A Metamora Sectional took place on Wednesday in part due to inclement weather while the rest occurred on Thursday.

From each sectional, the top two placers and qualifying performances advance to the main event.  

The state meet will transpire at O’Brien Field in Charleston beginning Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18.  

Class 3A 

O’Fallon Sectional 

100: Katelyn Lehnen, junior, Chatham Glenwood (11.58) 

200: Lehnen, Glenwood (24.50) 

400: Lehnen, Glenwood (56.09) 

800: Ali Londrigan, freshman, Glenwood (2:17.55) 

300 hurdles: Natalie Alexander, senior, Glenwood (46.42) 

4x400 relay: Glenwood (Lydia Gurnsey, Londrigan, Alexander, Lehnen) 4:00.44 

4x800 relay: Glenwood (Gurnsey, Rachael Behrens, Sophie Rentmeister, Londrigan) 9:41.86 

Pole vault: Reese Wolfe, junior, Glenwood (3.57 meters/11 feet-9 inches) 

What to know: Chatham Glenwood junior star Katelyn Lehnen swept her three sprint events while also qualifying in the 4x400 relay. She won the Class 3A state title in the 200-meter dash as a freshman before injuries affected the ensuing season. Junior Reese Wolfe captured her first sectional title in the pole vault and the Titans finished in second place as a team behind only Normal Community. Wolfe reached fourth place at last year’s state finals. Freshman Ali Londrigan surged to second place in both the 800 and 4x800 relay while also participating on the 4x4 to qualify for three events. Senior Natalie Alexander qualified in two events. She took third place in the 300-meter hurdles.

Discus throw: Efe-Nogo, Southeast (111-2 ¼) 

High jump: Jaida Linn, freshman, Hillsboro (1.59 meters/5-3) 

Triple jump: Alannah Lowery, sophomore, Southeast (35-2 ½) 

What to know: Rochester feasted on the long-distance events with four gold medals. Sisters Brooke and Ashley Zeibert won the 800 and 1600, respectively, while Maria Olson took the 3200. It was Ashley’s second sectional crown in the 1600. Brooke and Ashley Zeibert also fueled the 4x800 relay to first place ahead of runnerup Sacred Heart-Griffin with teammates Natalie Nichols and Jillian Conlon. The Zeiberts, and Nichols, previously won the 2A state title in the 4x800 with their older sister, Colleen, in 9:33.45. Sacred Heart-Griffin's Olivia Redpath qualified in three events. Redpath earned second place in the 100 in 12.65 and SHG went runnerup in the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800. Hillsboro’s Jaida Linn tied for the highest mark in the high jump. She already holds the school record with a height of 5-6.

Metamora Sectional 

400: Belle Shoufler, junior, Williamsville (1:00.53) 

800: Becca Heitzig, senior, Lincoln (2:16.43); Joelle Wilson, freshman, Williamsville (2:21.57) 

1600: Heitzig, Lincoln (5:06.61); Louisa Wilson, junior, Williamsville (5:19.98) 

3200: Wilson, Williamsville (11:19.24) 

300 hurdles: Heitzig, Lincoln (46.90) 

4x400 relay: Lincoln (Mallory Short, Kyli Lund, Grace Schneider, Heitzig) 4:08.15 

High jump: Bailey Tungate, freshman, Lincoln (5-feet); Laetitia Kanda, freshman, Beardstown (5-0) 

Long jump: Diana Huerta, sophomore, Beardstown (17-1) 

Here’s what to know:Lincoln senior Becca Heitzig predictably dominated the 800-meter run in 2:16.43. She is a two-time defending state champion in the event, setting the 2A state meet record in both instances with the last at 2:08.48. She also narrowly clipped Normal U-High's Zoe Carter in the 1600. Heitzig previously went state runnerup in the 1600. She will also aim for another state medal with teammate Mallory Short in the 4x400 relay while making her first state appearance in the 300-meter hurdles, taking third place in both events at the sectional. Williamsville junior Louisa Wilson broke her own school record in the 3200. She came in third place at 11.19.24 while also qualifying in the other long-distance event. 

Class 1A 

Pleasant Plains Sectional 

400: Kami Rhoades, senior, Athens (1:01.83) 

800: Abigail Wolters, junior, Pleasant Plains (2:24.77); Madigan Burger, sophomore, New Berlin (2:26.95) 

1600: Burger, New Berlin (5:37.04) 

300 hurdles: Sloan Noble, freshman, Plains (51.63) 

4x100 relay: Plains (Julia Bergner, Ella Pearce, Lauren Hegele, Rilyn Hill) 51.71 

4x200 relay: Plains (Peyton Howell, Pearce, Teagen Galloway, Hill) 1:50.82

Discus throw: Addie Stadsholt, junior, Athens (118-10 ¾); Piper Tyson, freshman, Mount Pulaski (109-11 ¾) 

High jump: Ashtyn Lazzell, freshman, high jump (1.47 meters/4-10) 

Pole vault: Ana Eveland, junior, Rushville-Industry (2.32 meters/7-7); Whitney Wilson, senior, Plains (2.31 meters/7-7) 

Long jump: Ava Bee, freshman, Athens (17-5) 

Triple jump: Lauren Hegele, junior, Plains (33-1 ¼) 

What to know: Abigail Wolters totaled three victories and Pleasant Plains captured the sectional title as a team. Wolters beat out New Berlin’s Madigan Burger in 2:24.77 and served as the lead runner on the dominant 4x800 and anchor on the equally strong 4x400. Lauren Hegele also won the triple jump for the Cardinals. Athens’ Addie Stadsholt will contend for another state medal in the discus throw after taking sixth place in the event last year in Charleston. 

North Mac Sectional 

100: Alexis Bowman, senior, North Mac (12.38); Kaelyn Swift, junior, North Mac (12.43) 

200: Swift, North Mac (25.87) 

800: Madeline Murphy, sophomore, Carlinville (2:34.84) 

100 hurdles: Emma Crawford, junior, North Mac (15.44) 

300 hurdles: Kendall Stewart, senior, Litchfield (46.48); Crawford, North Mac (48.47) 

4x100 relay: North Mac (Swift, Crawford, Bowman, Addison Earley) 50.31; Litchfield (Shyan Haycraft, Stewart, Brooke Braasch, Izabella Fenton) 53.05 

4x200 relay: North Mac (Swift, Crawford, Earley, Bowman) 1:47.16

Long jump: Fenton, Litchfield (16-8) 

Triple jump: Fenton, Litchfield (33-1 ½); Addison Cole, freshman, North Mac (32-5) 

What to know: Alexis Bowman and Emma Crawford each won three events and the host Panthers garnered second place as a team. Bowman claimed the 100 in 12.38 just ahead of teammate Kaelyn Swift. Crawford dominated the 100 hurdles in 15.44 after taking ninth place at last year’s state meet in the event. Bowman, Crawford and Swift each led the Panthers to wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. They won the 4x200 relay at the indoor Illinois Top Times meet in March. Litchfield’s Kendall Stewart won two events while qualifying in two others. She will chase for a top podium in the 300 hurdles after going runnerup at O’Brien Field in 2023. Carlinville’s Hannah Gibson also returns as a state contender in both the shot put and discus throw. 

Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional 

Discus throw: Reagan McGlaughlen, sophomore, Pana (127-6 ¾); Phoenix Pope, freshman, Pana (117-2 ¼) 

Long jump: Camryn Engelman, sophomore, Nokomis (16-6 ¾) 

Triple jump: Irene Vandenbergh, senior, Nokomis (34-1 ¾) 

Tremont Sectional 

800: Natalie Schurman, sophomore, Greenview (2:32.02) 

300 hurdles: Madison Kacevicius, senior, Greenview (48.52) 

4x400 relay: Greenview (Kacevicius, Annalise Schurman, Macie Willis, Natalie Schurman) 4:22.44 

Long jump: Kacevicius, Greenview (17-5 ½) 

What to know: Greenview senior Madison Kacevicius raked in three gold medals while sophomore teammate Natalie Schurman had two. Kacevicius will especially be a top state contender in the long jump. She leaped to second place at the indoor Illinois Top Times meet earlier this spring.Â
